Our 2026 Sew Camps were a big hit! Here's a brief description of the 2026 camps to give a general idea of what's in store for 2027. Camps are 4 days long, except for Intro to Sewing.
Our new 3-day camp (Intro to Sewing) introduces younger sewists (ages 8-9) to the basics of hand and machine sewing, including working through a skills checklist and kit projects (provided).
Beginning Sew I camps, geared to older sewists (ages 10-18), introduce the beginning sewist with the basics of hand and machine sewing using a sewing machine and basic tools. Students work on a skills checklist and provided kit projects.
Beginning Sew II camps are for sewists who have completed Beginning Sew I, with a skills review. Sewists can complete any of the core projects from the previous year and/or choose a variety of other project kits to sew.
After completing at least a year of Beginning Sew II, sewists are ready to move on Continuing Sew camp, moving on from precut kits to sewing garments.
They will learn to measure themselves, pin patterns according to layout and fabric grain, and cut out patterns. Focus will be on keeping even seam allowances and following pattern sewing instructions. Seam finishing will be taught.
Independent Sew camps are for students who have taken the Continuing Sew camp.
Students will choose and prep fabric and pattern, lay and cut out pattern, and sew with guidance and advice from our most expert volunteers. Students may consult with instructors prior to camp on their project selection. Students can also choose from other kits available, including those for purchase using special fabrics like cork, vinyl, and metal components.
Quilt Camp is for students who have completed at least one of our Sew Camps. Students will learn the basics of quilt piecing, construction, and terminology, and will complete a lap-sized quilt from provided kits.
