Who We Are:

Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas Clothing and Textile Advisors KOP CTA) are sewing enthusiasts with a mission to engage people, organizations, and communities in the art of sewing and working with textiles.

KOP CTA members receive training and then participate in volunteer activities that fit our mission. We offer many opportunities that benefit others, support community agencies, and pass on our love of sewing.

Monthly meetings include programs to update our sewing skills, learn new techniques in fiber arts, and showing and sharing things we have learned and made. Our members live and serve in communities from Port Angeles to Gig Harbor.

What We Do:

Summer Sewing Camps

Sewing Room Sale

The Sewing Room Sale is a multifaceted community service project and fundraiser for our organization. Sewing and textile-related donations are collected and curated throughout the year, then sold to the community at prices substantially below retail.

This benefits our community by:

  • Allowing sewers of all skill, interest, and income levels to shop for supplies

  • Promoting reuse/recycling of textile-related items, and keeping textile waste out of the waste stream

  • Providing local sewers access to unusual and hard-to-find fabrics, tools, patterns, and machines

  • Providing retiring business owners the opportunity to donate excess materials for tax write-off, and to aid community members clearing estates

  • Offering low-cos supplies to charitable organizations (Project Linus, Quilts of Valor, Humane Society, schools, etc.)

  • Promoting sewing for young people by providing Sewing Camp students and 4-H members with special shopping hours and gift certificates to support future sewing endeavors

  • Identifying and donating sewing and textile-related items of historical interest to museums and educational institutions

  • Providing an opportunity for like-minded people to share a day of fun, fabric, and inspiration!

KOP CTA utilizes funds from this sale to sponsor Sewing Camps, cash prizes at the Kitsap County Fair, Sewing Machines Essay contest, educational training, grants, scholarships, and more.

Details and announcements may be found on our Facebook page, @KitsapOlympicPeninsulaCTA.

Summer Sewing Camps

Youth ages 8 to 18 learn to sew at our summer camps. Sessions are offered for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Our skilled volunteer teachers are there to offer instruction, support, and encouragement.

Campers enjoy completing simple projects like pillows, totes, and drawstrings bags to build basic skills. The intermediate and advanced level participants choose projects with a challenge as their skills and confidence grow. They complete garments and crafts using different fabrics and techniques like zippers, button holes, gathers, sleeves, and linings.

Community Service

Community Service

Members volunteer their skills to help community agencies and groups that serve those in need. We enjoy making clothing, toys, hats, mittens, sensory quilts, and more. It is gratifying to be of service to our neighbors.
